Azure Virtual Network Peering Monitoring

Azure Virtual Network Peering is a service that enables you to seamlessly connect two virtual networks in the same region or across regions.
With Site24x7's integration, you can now monitor your Azure Virtual Network Peering connections, configure thresholds, and receive alerts about critical changes. Site24x7 provides dashboard visualization and alerting capabilities for key metrics like peering state, sync level, and network access settings.

Setup and configuration

You can add Azure Virtual Network Peering while adding a new monitor or you can add it to an existing Azure monitor. Follow these steps to add the service.

Monitored metrics

These metrics are collected and monitored by Site24x7. They are displayed as dashboards and support threshold-based alerting.

Configuration data

This data provides information about the configuration of your Virtual Network Peering connection. It is displayed in the Configuration Details tab.

Configuration Details	Subscription Name	The name of the Azure subscription where the Virtual Network Peering is deployed
	Resource Group Name	The resource group to which the Virtual Network Peering belongs
	Location	The Azure region where the Virtual Network Peering is deployed
	Name	The name of the Virtual Network Peering connection
	Provisioning State	The current provisioning state of the Virtual Network Peering
	Resource GUID	The unique identifier for the Virtual Network Peering resource
	Virtual Network	The name of the virtual network that contains this peering connection
	Allow Virtual Network Access	Indicates whether traffic from the remote network is allowed (true/false)
	Allow Forwarded Traffic	Indicates whether forwarded traffic from the remote network is allowed (true/false)
	Allow Gateway Transit	Indicates whether gateway transit is allowed for this peering connection (true/false)
	Use Remote Gateways	Indicates whether remote gateways are used for this peering connection (true/false)
Do Not Verify Remote Gateways	Indicates whether verification of remote gateways is disabled (true/false)
Peer Complete VNets	Indicates whether the entire virtual networks are peered (true/false)

Threshold configuration

Global configuration

In the Site24x7 web client, go to the Admin section on the left navigation pane.
Select Configuration Profiles from the left pane and select the Threshold and Availability (+) tab from the drop-down menu.
Click Add Threshold Profile in the top-right corner.
For Monitor Type, select Azure Virtual Network Peering.

You can now set the threshold values for the metrics that support threshold-based alerting:

Peering State - Get alerted when the peering state changes, which could indicate connectivity issues between your virtual networks
Peering Sync Level - Monitor for changes in the synchronization level between peered networks
Allow Virtual Network Access - Get alerted when the virtual network access setting changes
Allow Forwarded Traffic - Get alerted when the forwarded traffic setting changes
Allow Gateway Transit - Get alerted when the gateway transit setting changes
Use Remote Gateways - Get alerted when the remote gateways usage setting changes
