Custom Roles for Business Units

In multi-team management, there is often a struggle with inconsistent access controls and repetitive permission setups. To overcome this, you can create Business Unit-specific Custom Roles—directly from the Admin Portal—instead of configuring roles at each unit individually. At the Business Unit level, Custom Roles can be utilized to streamline and restrict access to various management activities, audit logs, user management, third-party integrations, and sensitive resources.

On a broader scale, Portal Administrators can assign custom roles to Portal users to efficiently manage monitoring solutions across multiple Business Units. For instance, a technical support role can be defined with read-only access to all unit monitors, restricting permissions related to critical areas such as reporting or dashboard configuration.

Within individual Business Units, each Custom Role can be crafted to meet specific operational needs, ensuring precise permissions are granted according to unique requirements. For example, network engineers or application developers can be assigned roles that permit management only of monitors relevant to their responsibilities, thereby enhancing security and operational focus.

Benefits of Custom Roles in Business Units

  • Streamline Business Units operations by tailoring permissions to exact workflows.
  • Strengthen compliance by enforcing least-privilege access across units.
  • Accelerate onboarding with predefined, role-specific access configurations.

Configuring Custom Roles

The roles in each Business Unit are synced across individual units. Only Portal Admins can create a Custom Role in a Business Unit. Follow the given steps below to configure Custom Roles across your Business Units:

  1. Log in to the Site24x7 Business Units Portal with a Portal Admin account.
  2. Navigate to Admin > User & Alert Management > Custom Roles.
  3. Click Add Custom Roles at the top-right corner of the Custom Roles page.
